Senjojiki

Senjojiki is a dramatic rock formation located along the coastline of Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture. Shaped over thousands of years by the powerful waves of the Pacific Ocean, the vast sandstone surface resembles “a thousand tatami mats,” which is how it got its name.
The natural patterns, cracks, and steps carved by the sea create a striking and otherworldly landscape.
On clear days, visitors can enjoy sweeping ocean views, and at sunset, the rocks and sea are bathed in warm golden and crimson hues.
This breathtaking spot showcases the raw beauty and power of nature and is one of Shirahama’s most iconic scenic attractions.
